Wind of Murder

Ch 4: One More Adventure

By Rusty

--------------------------

 "MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMM!!!"

Robert wrapped his arms tightly around a large television.

Robert's mother looked impatient. "Look, Robert, you're not in college anymore, you can't keep your old projects down here forever!! I've already got some people coming over to look at the TV and make an offer. Honestly, why are you so attached to it?? It's not even flat."

Robert shook his head. "No, mom, you don't understand!! You *cannot* just give this away! It's not even yours."

"And yet it sits in my basement, so what am I supposed to do about it, huh? You won't move it.."

Robert stumbled for an answer. "It's, uh...        ...it belongs to Max."

Robert's parents were not aware that Max had returned at any point, and his mother simply sighed. "Robert...   I know he was a close friend of yours... but this thing is huge. Besides, the two of you didn't have it for very long anyways. Please, just let go of it."

"I can't, mom!!" Robert shouted. "Max needs me to hold on to it!!"

  "And why is that, exactly?"

...Right on cue, the glass of the screen disappeared, and everyone in the vicinity felt an odd case of vertigo for a few seconds. All of the sudden, Max was poking his head out of the box.

"Hi Rob!! Wanna take over for a bit?"

Robert's mother didn't even notice her jaw dropping, but Robert was too excited to care. "DUDE!! IMPECCABLE TIMING!!"

Max smiled as he climbed out of the box. Following behind him was a small purple dragon and space hunter Samus Aran. "Hi, Mrs. Nelson!! Hey, if you don't mind, I'm gonna take my TV back to my house, ok? I don't want it to accidentally get tossed out or sold or anything."

Mrs. Nelson stared blankly. "... ...sure."

Robert smiled and hopped into the tunnel Max crawled out of. "I'll be back later mom, just going on an adventure or something. Seeya~"

  The woman blinked. "...   ...sure."

===============================

Link could not take his plane. There was nowhere he could reasonably land up North, so he had to do things the old-fashioned way and walk. Now, for the record, Link was certainly not the first pilot in Hyrule, and the land North of Kakariko had certainly been flown over before. There was nothing of interest to see from above though, and nobody considered it worth hiking toward. After a goodbye from dad, and a belly full of pancakes, Link set foot North of town, amidst the clucking of cuccos and the squeak of an old windmill.

Before long, he came upon a base of rock, sticking out of the far hills. A small waterfall was flowing into a pond before it, and a small fairy sat on a rock. "Hi there, Link!! What are you doing?"

Link smiled. "I'm heading North, to explore. Do you guys know anything about the woods up there?"

The fairy giggled. "There's a shrine up there that you might find interesting, but it's in a dark cave. Hope you're very brave! Let me help by easing your weariness.."

A soft aura surrounded Link, and he soon felt full of energy. "Thank you," he smiled.

  "Be careful up there!!"

--------------------------

The sky shone gold in the morning light, as Link began to scale a craggy wall. Small rocks tumbled down from above, one nearly hitting him. When he reached the top, he saw before him a large, black crack in the Earth. There was no telling how far down it went, and no way to jump across. Link was prepared though. He pulled out a wire hookshot and fired at a tree on the other side. When the wood was pierced, he swung into the ravine and began retracting as his feet hit the far wall.

After pulling himself up, Link looked before him and saw a dim, cool evergreen forest, light poking in rays, between the wooden columns. A calm came over Link, even as he explored this unexplored territory. There were no hostile creatures about, and in an odd way the forest felt like home to him. Using a compass, he continued due north through the confusing sea of trees, lest he get turned around. In Hyrule especially, this was a common phenomenon known as The Lost Woods.

Many small obstacles dotted Link's path, such as creeks to cross, and fallen tree trunks. After awhile, the trees got to be much bigger, and the light of the sun became more and more scarce. Link began to grow just a little uncomfortable, but then fireflies lit the path for him. climbing small cliff faces, he came to a massive fallen tree trunk, sticking out of the side of the earth, covered in vines and moss. As Link parted the vines, he saw that it was hollow inside. A path through the tree trunk!!  He stepped inside, and into the dark.

Light was scarce at first, but there was a hole in the cave ceiling, and Link could see a column of light in the distance. Carefully walking towards it, Link felt as though there was some man-made ground beneath him. Forgotten territory perhaps?

Finally, he had reached the column of light, and found something most peculiar. There was a large, flat, stone slab, carved into the shape of a hexagon, and upon it was a pedestal with the Triforce etched into it. Link stepped onto the slab and looked down at the pedestal. There was a hole in the top that looked like it could fit the Master Sword.

"I get it..." Link nodded, to himself. "*This* is your home? Well, if it will save Hyrule... here we go."

Link closed his eyes for a few moments, and then, inserted the blade of the Master Sword into the stone pedestal. All of the sudden, the ground beneath him lit up, and he could see the outlines of several ancient runes and symbols, glowing brighter, brighter, brighter still, and a wind from beneath blew his hair straight up, as a bright beam of light engulfed him and the entire pedestal....

When the light parted, Link stood in place, and removed the Master Sword. As his eyes adjusted, he saw that he was no longer in a dark cave, but...    ...some sort of cathedral, with stained glass windows. He wasn't sure, but it definitely seemed familiar...

Link walked through a small passage into a much larger room, with light pouring in from the sides of the building, and it became perfectly clear that he was in a church of some sort... He thought it seemed very familiar...    and then, he heard the voices of monks and clergymen singing what sounded very much like the Song of Time.

"Oh my god..." Link uttered, as he realized where he was.

"This is the Temple of Time..."

Link is about to have a most excellent adventure.
